The Song of Oryx

When I saw Oryx I was overcome with many thoughts
I fled to a very High place
    Which was very Deep

And I said:

Aurash, Auryx, Oryx!
    God almighty
        King of taking
    Destroyer of Heaven and Earth
        Of Deep and Sky
            Of Firmament and Fundament

I have read the books of your sorrow
    Triumph by annihilation
    Annihilation by triumph
And one question would I ask you
    O seeker of hidden wisdom

Are you a god or a worm?

When you have taken all
    That is
    Or was
    Or will be
Will you not then yourself be taken?
Will not your worm devour you
    And all you have devoured?

You will say that this is good
That only in existence is the right to exist
But I say that you are weak
    And have always been
You are a fool who was given a gift
        And it will take you

O mighty Oryx
    You have destroyed your god
        You have taken his godhood
You walk where he has walked
And plumb Depths he has not known
    But your god yet lives
        He crawls inside you
        He will take you
            When you have taken all

Aiat! Aiat! Aiat!
Aiat for mighty Auryx!
Aiat for his son Crota!
Aiat for cunning Savathûn
    And for dread Xivu Arath!
Aiat for the Hive!

Crota destroyed
And tithed destruction to his father
Aiat for Crota!
He has been destroyed
By Guardians who tithe their light to each other
        And know no master

Xivu Arath was strong
And by sheer strength sought to destroy all things
Aiat for Xivu Arath!
She will be destroyed
By Titans who prune dead growth from the living
Rather than kill for destruction's sake

Savathûn was cunning
    She hid behind her Hive
        And watched
            And guided
                And led from shadow
        As they destroyed all things
Aiat for Savathûn!
She will be destroyed
By Hunters who hide in shadow
        To protect the light

You, O mighty Auryx, have exceeded them all
You sought to learn all things
        Their strength and their weakness
And to destroy them by both
Instead of one or the other
Aiat for great Auryx!
You will be destroyed
By Warlocks who plumb the secret heights
        Of both Darkness and Light

The Hive were weak
    And sought strength
    Their only request, to exist
Aiat for the Hive!
The worm their god has deceived them
It promised life if they would kill
        But it will kill them
When they have killed all else
Aiat for the Hive!
The Light preserves life in individuality
        And offers unity in harmony
    But the Darkness takes all
It gives unity only in death

Aiat for the Hive and their choice!
Aiat for Oryx their god and king!
Aiat! Aiat! Aiat!

This is the song that Zakar the Spy sang to Oryx, King of Taking
In the depths of his Dreadnought.
