Bebby Thor

They say that animals, having no soul,
When they die are never borne to heaven,
And I believe that.
But who can say,
When God shall recreate this pleasant earth,
Whether we find again my mother’s cat?

Shame

Where is my master?
He comes here of an evening
To speak with his father.
Where is my master?
I will mark him with a kiss.

Where is my love?
He comes when it is cool,
When evening dew this greenest garden decks.
Where is my love?
I am here in the figs.

Where is my light?
A lamp to my feet
And the life of men it is.
Where is my light?
I have closed my eyes.

What was the song you sang?
I only remember mine, from before.
Teach me the new one again.

Meditation on Constancy

When the prophet says of God,
His mercies are new every morning,
Does God change?
Or does finity, trial and sin, give daily
Occasion to seek again some gracious facet.
What is the church but a million fireflies
Squinting close upon a diamond.
